The recently upgraded XC40 will be sold alongside the C40 Recharge. The Volvo C40 Recharge is already available in the global market in two different versions. The first version has a single motor and rear-wheel drive configuration, producing 238 bhp of maximum power and offering a range of 482km on a single charge. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmmph in 7.4 seconds. The second version features twin motors and all-wheel drive, delivering 408 bhp of peak power. This variant can cover a distance of 508km on a single charge and achieve an acceleration capacity of 0-100 kph in 4.7 seconds. Volvo has previously stated its aim to achieve over 40-45 percent of total sales from electric vehicles by 2023, with the introduction of the C40 Recharge and the EX90 at the high end of the market in the coming years.

EV Motor, Power, and Performance
The Single Motor models of the C40 Recharge come with standard rear-wheel drive, powered by a 248-hp electric motor. During our initial test drive in Sweden, we observed that the rear-wheel drive C40 Recharge provided lively acceleration and we estimate it will reach 60 mph in approximately 6.6 seconds. Those who crave speed may prefer the all-wheel drive Twin Motor model, which is equipped with two electric motors—one at the front and one at the back—that collectively deliver up to 402 hp. We anticipate a zero-to-60-mph time of 4.4 seconds for the dual-motor model. Unsurprisingly, the driving experience of the C40 Recharge closely resembles its squareback counterpart. This is faster than electric SUVs like the Audi e-tron, which has a higher starting price.
Range, Charging, and Battery Life
The Single Motor models are equipped with a standard 79.0-kWh battery pack that offers a driving range of up to 297 miles. On the other hand, the all-wheel drive C40 Recharge Twin Motor has a battery pack that holds 75.0-kWh of usable energy storage, enabling an approximate driving distance of 257 miles per charge.
All C40 Recharge models support 200-kW DC fast charging, allowing the battery to reach a charge between 10 and 80 percent in just 28 minutes. It is also possible to charge the C40 Recharge at home using either a 110-volt or 220-volt outlet, though this will take longer compared to fast charging. During our test on a highway traveling at a speed of 75 mph, we recorded a highway range of 200 miles.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPGe
The fuel economy estimates for the 2024 C40 Recharge have not been released by the EPA yet, however, it is anticipated that there will be slight enhancements compared to the figures from last year. To find out more about the fuel economy of the C40 Recharge, please visit the EPA’s website.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The interior of the C40 Recharge closely resembles that of the XC40, which means it offers a raised seating position, smart storage solutions throughout the cabin, and premium materials and finishes. However, leather upholstery is not available for the C40 Recharge as Volvo has made it their first vehicle to be completely leather-free. Additionally, the C40 Recharge stands out with its backlit trim panels on the dashboard and doors that illuminate to showcase an abstract representation of a topography map. One major distinction between the C40 and XC40 models is the former’s more striking rear roofline. While this coupe-like design does slightly reduce cargo space, drivers are more likely to notice the significantly larger blind spots created by such styling rather than any impact on storage capacity.

Infotainment and Connectivity
The standard infotainment system in the Volvo includes a touchscreen that operates on the latest Google Android-based software. This system can also receive software updates over-the-air. It offers navigation capabilities through Google Maps and allows users to give voice commands through Google Assistant.
Our initial findings indicate that this new interface is more responsive compared to Volvo’s previous one. However, it should be noted that the on-screen buttons are smaller and may be more challenging to use while driving. In addition, users have the option to download additional applications from the Google Play Store. The vehicle also features a standard digital gauge display, while the loaded Ultimate trim includes a premium Harman Kardon stereo system.
The standout features of the C40 Recharge’s exterior include LED headlamps inspired by Thor’s hammer, 19-inch alloy wheels with a five-spoke design, a sleek sloping roofline, vertical tail lamps, and a spoiler mounted on the trunk. The interior of the C40 Recharge will be completely free of leather, and it will feature a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system powered by Google. Additionally, the driver’s seat can be adjusted electronically, and the instrument cluster is fully digital. The car also comes with a full-size fixed panoramic sunroof and a backlit garnish on the dashboard.

The C40 Recharge has scored a full five-star safety rating in the Euro NCAP crash test.
